Which is the rooster, which is the hen?

  1. I'm not sure what's going on on the cover of "Masquerade in Petticoats" - Is the one on the right a ventriloquist and the one in the middle her puppet? Is her hand operating the mouth mechanism? And why are they both wearing "Wo-Man" make up?

As for Ty Bennett, it's nice to see the record sleeve illustrating the dance steps to "I'm a Little Teapot". This must be where STEPS got their inspiration from?

  2. He looks more butch with the dress on.

Jon have you ever featured When George became Julia on here? I always think that must have been huge when it was on but she doesn't seem to be remembered as much. I remember seeing her on TV as a child, she must have been the first trans person I ever heard of

    1. No I haven't. I don't even remember the original 80s documentary, although I have heard about it since, of course. [And, on looking her up I find that Julia is now "happily retired" after running successful LGBT bars in Manchester for several years.]

    2. She was incredibly brave to do that show at the time - there'd been Jan Morris (my dad said he knew her, when she was James) and April Ashley but not many out trans people. They even filmed her being painted in the nude. There's a strange scene where her therapist was telling her off for having breast implants without his permission...

    3. Strange behaviour indeed for a therapist...

Good to note that both Jan Morris and April Ashley are still with use - and speaking of Miss Ashley... Jx

    4. I don't think he'd get away with that now.

It was your article about April Ashley got me thinking about Julia. Mark Gatiss mentions her as having made a big impression on him and the other "Gentlemen" when they were growing up.

    5. Judging by some of the "female monsters" they portrayed in The League of Gentlemen, I'm not sure that is entirely flattering to Julia... Jx

    6. Babs Cabs sketch hasn't dated well, nor has Little Britain's Emily Howard.

    7. "Little Britain" went on just a little bit too long for my liking; unlike "The Fast Show", which ended well before it got jaded. Jx
