Arise...

...Dame Emma Thompson!

"I have a nervous breakdown in [one film] and in one scene I get to stand at the top of the stairs waving an empty sherry bottle which is, of course, a typical scene from my daily life, so isn't much of a stretch."

"My husband is here and I'd like to thank him, for many things, but first of all for pointing out that I had a big hole in my frock and then that my nipples were pointing in different directions. It's good to have an expert there to help you with that sort of thing."

(On period costume posture coaching:) "We all stand about like parboiled spaghetti being straightened out.”

"Maybe I don't take myself so seriously any more. And I don't care how I'm judged. I'm past all that."

All hail.

    2. When Hayley Atwell was round at her house for she noticed she wasn't eating, and asked her why and was told that the studio had told her not to put any weight on, at which point she phoned the studio up and bollocked them about it, threatening to pull out of a project she was involved with.

  3. I adore Emma Thompson and feel we haven't seen enough of her over this side of the pond. No idea why, but I adored her in Remains of the Day for some reason a lot.

    1. I adore her in so many ways - not least for her eternal friendship with house favourites here at Dolores Delargo Towers such as Stephen Fry (who she once terrorised by parading downstairs naked; to screams from him, and hoots of laughter from her) Hugh Laurie, Helen Mirren and the late Alan Rickman - and her uncompromising good humour in whatever she tackles (even the baddies). 4. Don't forget she's a screenwriter as well - I THINK she's the only person to have oscarsfOsc acting and writing. I might be wrong.

And Glenda Jackson just won a Tony Award, so a good week for English acting divas with a social conscience

    1. You are correct - Dame Emma is indeed multi-talented! She has a long way to go to match the peerless Glenda, however. Jx
