“Looking good and dressing well is a necessity. Having a purpose in life is not.”
Oscar Wilde
The top frocks from the Oscars 2011 red carpet, in my opinion:
1. The best dress of them all has to be this simply stunning number by Elie Saab, worn by Mila Kunis:
2. A close runner-up is this gorgeous little number by (British fashion house) Marchesa, sported by the ever-stylish Halle Berry:
3. I particularly love this vintage Charles James frock, sported by Marisa Tomei:
4. Hilary Swank looked wonderful in this ostrich feather-trimmed Gucci number:
5. And last, but by no means least, Sandra Bullock wore this Vera Wang gown particularly well...
CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."

The James dress, divine. The fit and her styling? My dear! Does Miss Tomei not have a gay of her very own?
ReplyDeleteMiss Bullock has grown into a lovely woman. Her makeup was flawless. So smart from head to toe.
I love Hillary Swank's severity of line. Always.
How I long for the "hobble" look - I can't be faffed with this relentless trend for bottom-of-the-dress fandango. Yeuch. Looks like they've burst at the knees.
ReplyDelete& black. What the hell happened to black...?!
Hmmm - you have a point. What DID happen to black this year? Jx
ReplyDeleteOr a split-skirt dress? Or even a wraparound, despite associated risks...?
ReplyDeleteI love that Charles James dress too. The hair-possibly got mussed in the windy conditions that day- I think the effort was to make it that wavy look that pervaded in the 40's. Glad you voted this one in, as I did as well- and of course HOBAC, where all things spring-brought me here.
