CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."

"Wichita's one and only burlesque theatre presents..."
"If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing slowly... very slowly."
"The shoulder strap led to one thing and another, if you know what I mean, and that's how I started in the strip business."
"I wasn't naked, I was completely covered by a blue spotlight."

Love her... love Gypsy.
ReplyDeleteI named my dog- Louise for God's sake.
Does she sing out? Jx
ReplyDeleteI remember watching her talk show on TV when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know exactly who she was but she was great fun to watch.
I am certain her male audiences at the burleque thought she was great fun, too! Jx
ReplyDeleteGRL offered her services to the USO during WW2 and was rejected (they felt American mothers would be upset having a known stripper entertain their sons) she then offered to dress like old mother Hubbard and read sonnets and they still rejected her. From all accounts she was a very nice lady. Her sister was actress June Havoc.

Those puritans didn't recognise her true talents! Even Eleanor Roosevelt sent her good wishes, saying "May your bare ass always be shining." Jx
