CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."

You will know that I am the best and will hear me
“I am here and you will know that I am the best and will hear me. The color of my skin or the kink of my hair or the spread of my mouth has nothing to do with what you are listening to.”
"You should always know when you're shifting gears in life. You should leave your era; it should never leave you.”
“Accomplishments have no colour.”

Isn't she splendid? Throws into shade anyone who attempts diva-dom today, really, both from her own gifts and powers and because there really no longer is any way for a serious artist such as she to become a mass-culture sensation.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a tot working in the lower echelons of the show biz, for a while I had a job that involved answering phones, and every once in a while either Miss Price or, more frequently, her brother General Price, her de facto manager, would call. With either, one had the impression it was rather like talking to God...
She is indeed a god-like being of the first order! Jx
DeleteI love the story about returning to her home town after a European tour, to have the clerk at the corner shop say to her "so, Leontyne, you still singin?".
