At a Bacall house party...

...there's music...

...there's dancing...

...there's gossip...

...plenty of booze...

...fun with friends...

...safety gays...

...and a buffet...

...a grand way to start a weekend!

  3. How fantabulous. I have a different shot of that photo (Jan 59) of Bacall (I wouldn't dare care her Betty), Viv, Kay and Noel having late night drinks, maybe at The Savoy or The Ritz; three gals with their gay best friend. Kay was gone by September that year, but Lauren kept going till 2014 was it. I went to the signing of her autobiography, in late 70s, and she glared at me, as she obviously hated being there. Later she added a new chapter and sold it all over again, I saw her then signing it in Oxford Street Waterstones. I also saw APPLAUSE which was the worst adaptation of a classic movie ever. but Betty always had pizazz - love her in Minnelli's DESIGNING WOMAN with Peck. She also holds court in some of those Roddy McDowall home movies, now on YouTube, they are endlessly fascinating, seeing those pals and co-stars having nice Sunday afternoons at Roddy's Malibu beachfront home - its quite unpretentious, but would cost zillions now. Nowdays of course they would all be facebooking and instagramming themselves with their showbiz pals.

    1. The closest we got to the mercurial Miss Bacall was when we went to the ENO production of On The Town in the West End in 2005. Our friends trolled off to the stage door to get Adam Garcia's autograph, and lo and behold, none other than Betty rolled out, signed their programmes as well and then got into her car [I can only assume she was backstage to support cast member Aaron Lazar, who must be some kind of relative of her and Bogey's agent "Swifty" Lazar]! We, on the other hand, had already gone on ahead to the pub, damn it! Jx
