CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."

such interesting hats; I understand she was a real bitch!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the film Malice in Wonderland? It stars Jane Alexander as Hedda and... Liz Taylor as Louella Parsons! [Amazing, considering that Miss Taylor was so often the target of both women in their barbed gossip columns.] It is a bitch-fest of the highest order, and I loved it. Jx
DeleteShe was very homophobic.
ReplyDeleteShe was "everything"-phobic, but according to sources I have read, she had gay friends and never "outed" anyone. Louella Parsons may have done so, on the other hand... Jx
DeleteI never like people who spread other people's personal and private business, especially for profit. Her hats are interesting, the only positive thing about someone who thrived, sadly, on negativity.
ReplyDeleteShe made a profession out of it - but she most certainly wasn't the only one. Yes, she destroyed many a career through her bitchiness, which is not admirable, but at least she wasn't a hypocrite like many of her ilk - like our very own Mary Whitehouse, the "moral crusader" who was in real life named in someone else's divorce as co-respondent, for example. Jx
Delete'Never looked lovelier'
ReplyDelete"Here - have some pepper up your nose!" Jx
DeleteLove that film so much
DeleteNeed to re-convene that "Film Club" idea with the rest of the gang, and put that on the list for the first event... Jx
