CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." Oh that's sad, one of the all time great Sunday - afternoon films
ReplyDeleteVery sad - apart from the child actors, that leaves only "Tulsa" and "June" left alive among the whole cast. A great film version of one of my all-time fave musicals [even if Ethel Merman wuz robbed]! Jx
DeleteAnd it's a rare film that's still shocking now if you think about the plot line (child star gets pushed into stripping) even if the dance routines or costumes don't seem very raunchy to modern eyes (I doubt if there's many girls at Spearmint Rhino who play the trumpet as part of their act)
ReplyDeleteThat's assuming Spearmint Rhino is still a thing, obviously it's not at the moment, but it might be a mystery who's stil going going in, like who's stil going in "those" cinemas
After the war is over, there'll still be room for "the oldest profession". Jx
DeleteAbsolutely, I just assume most of its members were already "working from home" anyway.
DeleteAs were their customers
ReplyDeleteSad news in deed.
ReplyDeleteHer voice was unique
And fro that picture, it seems she was still "pumpin' it with a trumpet" well into her 90s! Jx
DeleteOh dear ! I thought that was Sue Pollard
DeleteObviously an influence... Jx
DeleteWho would have thought such a giant still walked among us. "Once I was a schleppa...."
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought indeed, Mr or Ms Unknown? Jx
