    1. It is amazing what passed for "crafts" in the 1970s - my mother used to make hideous "character dolls" out of old tights and wadding to help her storytelling when she was a teacher. There's a whole generation of kids out there who are traumatised... Jx

  4. [While Ms Scarlet and Mistress Maddie are busy wrestling each other a rogue Proxy quietly slips down from her perch on the catwalks and absconds with the Fun Goth coloring book out the back door.]

I love when you pull these lists together, Jon! They're so much fun!

    1. Also on the topic of clowns; I think to new generations they are now scream makers instead of fun makers.

    2. I think more people nowadays fear/hate clowns than actually enjoy them. So why the fuck are circuses still a "thing"?! Jx

    3. Are circuses still a thing? We used to get an annual visit from Cirque du solei but they don't have clowns. Its more like acrobatic vaudeville. Certain members of my family were part of the American vaudeville tradition.

    4. They are still popular in many countries, but with a wave of bans on using live animals, the "traditional" circus is slowly dying out. I never enjoyed them, despite the fact that Charlie Cairoli and the Blackpool Tower Circus seemed to be a fixture on our telly screens when I was a kid... Jx

  6. That panty hose craft book is a smashing example of: just because one can, doesn't mean that one should. Of course, that could also apply to that book on VD as well. Kizzes. (Or perhaps we shouldn't?)
