That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see'st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
- William Shakespeare, from Sonnet 73
It's all over for another year - British Summer Time is ended.
No light evenings until next March...
Sob.
I had a collection of Vogue cover cards...probably worth a few bob now.And the autobiography of the Chases, "Always in Vogue."
ReplyDeletePeople do tend to forget, when they speak with reverence of Dame Anna Wintour's 37-year reign at Vogue that there were other "gods" before her - Edna Woolman Chase was its editor-in-chief from 1914 to her retirement in 1952 (so, at 38 years, pipped La Wintour's record)! Jx
DeletePS What happened to the cover card collection, Dinah?
