CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."

Oblivion, by way of obscurity
“Here's a rule I recommend: Never practise two vices at once.”
“It's the good girls who keep diaries; the bad girls never have the time.”
"The only thing I regret about my past is the length of it. If I had to live my life again I'd make all the same mistakes - only sooner."
"I did what I could to inflate the rumour I was on my way to stardom. What I was on my way to, by any mathematical standards known to man, was oblivion, by way of obscurity."
“Say anything about me, darling, as long as it isn't boring.”
Tallulah Brockman Bankhead (31st January 1902 – 12th December 1968)
In case anyone missed it, I found a marvellous anecdote about the Divine Miss B last year - read The Hurricane Called Tallulah to see what I mean.

"Well, darling, I really wouldn't know. He never sucked my cock."
ReplyDeleteI am sure whole books have been written just on Miss Bankhead's one-liners. Her career may have been - in her opinion - "obscure", but her wit is immortal. Jx
DeleteTallulah was such an iconic lady, so outspoken. The last photo of her with a handsome young man, he may have been gay, she said they made good company. Another quote from Tallulah in regard to a young couple " Dahhlling, I had them BOTH !!!
