CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."

Ida Lupino is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBut I confess, my favorite Ida is Ore Ida, for the french fries and tater tots. I can't help it. I love fried potatoes!
What a strange name for what we Brits call "chips". Here, the self-same product is branded McCains, and is generally renowned for being "Chav food". Jx
DeleteWhat's funny is that in the US, French fries are called chips when you order fish and chips! Every where else, you call them French fries--not because they're supposedly from France (Belgians claim to have invented/perfected fries), but because the potatoes were julienned, cut into sticks, also known in the US as the "French cut". And the US being lazy, the name was shortened from French cut fries to French fries to just fries!
DeleteTater Tots are the ingenious use of left over shavings from French cut fries, mashed together and fried to golden crispy deliciousness! A Tater Tot is just a bite size hash brown. All fried potatoes are manna from heaven!
1001 ways to make money from the humble potato, which is one of the cheapest of all vegetables to buy loose... Jx
DeleteLove that scene in They Drive By Night when Ida Lupino cracks up on the witness stand.
ReplyDeleteI am, sadly, unfamiliar with that one - and probably most of Miss Lupino's back catalogue, truth be told... Jx
