This weekend, I am mostly dressing casual...

  1. Adore. No, she was not a great actress, but she was an incredible personality and smart enough to play to her strengths. I think her style worked for her in several roles. Lion In Winter was as Katherine as it gets.

  2. bryn mawr college is 1/2 hour away from my location. from wikipedia:

In 1924 Hepburn was admitted to Bryn Mawr College. She initially agreed to attend the institution to satisfy her mother, who had studied there, but ultimately found the experience to be fulfilling. It was the first time she had been in school for several years, and she was self-conscious and uncomfortable with her classmates. She struggled with the scholastic demands of university, and once was suspended for smoking in her room. Hepburn was drawn to acting, but roles in college plays were conditional on good grades. Once her marks had improved, she began performing regularly. She performed the lead role in a production of The Woman in the Moon in her senior year, and the positive response it received cemented Hepburn's plans to pursue a theatrical career. She graduated with a degree in history and philosophy in June 1928.

    AND she was non-binary!

    1. WTF is "non-binary" anyway?

It's always intrigued me why that college is so named - for to me, Brynmawr is a former mining town up the valley from where I lived in Wales! According to Wikipedia, "Bryn Mawr" [= "big hill" in Welsh] was also the name of the former home in North Wales of Rowland Ellis, the Quaker emigrant on whose estate the college was built.

    2. "In really simple terms, a non-binary person is someone who does not identify as exclusively a man or a woman. Someone who is non-binary might feel like a mix of genders, or like they have no gender at all." my neighbor's daughter came out as non-binary this year. she chose a gender-neutral name, instead of a strictly female name.

we have many welsh named places in the philly area: bryn mawr, bryn athen, gwynedd, tredyffrin, colwyn are some of them.

    3. I've never heard/read anything that would indicate that Miss Hepburn ever thought that way or described herself as such - although there are plenty of rumours that she was a closet lesbian (and that Spencer Tracy "swung both ways" too)... Jx

    1. Apparently THAT dress was designed by by Walter Plunkett and created by Hollywood couturier Howard Greer, and was made up of thousands of little aluminium squares, so you may have a point. Interestingly, at her first fitting Miss Hepburn was scratched to death by all the little links joining the squares together, so Mr Plunkett sent it back to be lined with chiffon velvet. How luxurious! Jx

  5. Is that from a science fiction movie?

  6. I love it and I love that it's Katherine Hepburn wearing it too. Fascinating read about the dress design. Would have been willing to try it on myself once it was lined with velvet.
