The legend

The one and only Norma Jeane Mortenson, aka Marilyn Monroe, would have been 95 years old today...

The only article I can find that mentions this milestone anniversary is this one in Deutsche Welle (DW), which despite its trendy use of the word "woke" [how much do I loathe that word?!], is worth a read.

  2. We never got to know her... I would have loved to have read her autobiography. I think she had so much to share - insights only she experienced. She was smarter than most assume. It was her intellectual hunger that fueled so much of her work and life. I don't think she committed suicide. She was troubled, but I also think there was a lot going on we still know very little about.

    1. She certainly always wanted to be perceived as so much more than a sex symbol - her marriage to Henry Miller went against th2 "blonde bombshell" stereotype, and she sought out learned writers such as Edith Sitwell and Karen Blixen out of curiosity and to learn from them. Had she not been so dependent on the drugs that ended up killing her, I reckon her role in society might well have veered away from a conventional movie star career... Jx

    3. Oops! I knew what I meant :-)

Could have been worse. I could have called him Windy Miller...

  4. I love her so much! Such a wonderful comic and actress - I love seeing her alongside other iconic women, especially the double act between her and Jane Russell in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

And I'm so glad Billy Wilder didn't get his way and have her sleep with Tom Ewell in The Seven Year Itch! It would have turned the film into dirty old man fodder,I like the fact that she is totally unconscious of the fact he fancies her. Then again I'm quite sad at the end of Some Like It Hot because she loses her two cool drag queen friends and gains another dishonest bloke who'll probably let her down.)
