"I've never dieted in my life. Don't believe in it. Diets ruin a woman's health and appearance. Her face suffers. She looks drawn and haggard. I eat regular meals and eat anything and everything. Moderation is the key. I may eat cake; but I eat only a small slice."
"Personally, I buy only what suits me. In the daytime I dress very simply, but after 7pm I dress dramatically. I usually wear a tiny nose veil on a cocktail hat. Men love it, and it seems to suit my face and personality."
"Beauty does not come with creams and lotions and all those silly things. It comes with good digestion, moderation in eating, a discipline in life. Beauty comes from the inside out. Creams are a waste of money if you don't take care of your health."
“I love the sun, the moon, and trees, and heavy scented flowers. And beautiful friends about me. I hate intolerance and blundering stupidity. And those who are ridden in fear. I have had much laughter and much success. And many tears and dark sorrow. Now, gently, a philosophy has tempered all these things for me.”
"A woman must be soignee. To be neat in every aspect requires considerable organisation. But to me, that is more important than being fashionable!"
“I will make my life. I will carve it with care. I will get all I can out of it, every joy, all the laughter, all the beauty. The world is so full of beautiful things.”

ReplyDeleteAnd couldn't agree more about diets. Sensible lady.
Thank you, Señorita Del Rio! Jx
DeleteWho were "You were expecting - Dolores del Rio?"
ReplyDeleteShe was Glam and fab
On of the most beautiful faces of that Golden Age of Hollywood. Jx
DeleteI had no idea she could be such a source for inspiration. Smart cookie. And dazzling, as always. She had a good run. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteShe was from good Mexican aristocratic stock, and wisely left Hollywood (after marriage to and divorce from studio artistic director Cedric Gibbons, and a tumultuous affair with Orson Welles) before the rot set in. She kept her fortune and her jewellery, and became a philanthropist for good causes back in Mexico. A "smart cookie" indeed. Jx
DeleteI see I missed so very awesome outfits here! I tried to comment on a couple of your posts last week but I was having trouble. I've got Google and blogger all confused but its getting sorted.
ReplyDeleteMiss Del Rio's wardrobe was really quite something, wasn't it? Jx
DeletePS Google/Blogger is forever tweaking something or other, so glad you got back through the morass...
