CAMP: "A cornucopia of frivolity, incongruity, theatricality, and humour." "A deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love." "The lie that tells the truth." "Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to or characteristic of homosexuals."
My kids love that film! It's stood the test of time. I saw it so often as a child I don't think I could face seeing it again (ditto Railway Children, Fiddler on the Roof and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.)
Dick Van Dyke is still alive and seems to be a great bloke in real life
I don't think she did very much of huge note outside this particular role, which is a shame, but she was a "Desiree Armfeldt" in A Little Night Music at the Lincoln Centre New York in 1990, so that's something, I suppose.
Yes, she always seemed a very good-natured person. Jx
Aw, sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed. I imagine her "shining screen moment" will be shown at some stage over the season, as well. Jx
